Overview
The goal of this project was to create a company brand from logos I created. Once a logo was developed and approved, I was to create a letterhead, business card, envelope, and a fourth component of my choice related to the company’s purpose. I chose to create Kraken, a restaurant and bar.
Sketches
To begin this project, I was prompted to create a variety of logos related to nature, animals, minerals, fruits, and vegetables to explore and experiment as much as I could on both paper and digitally. After picking some of my stronger ideas from my sketches, I brought them into Adobe Illustrator to push the idea even further.
Of the logos I created, I was to narrow my selection to one of each prompt. My final selection was an octopus, peas, a durian, bismuth, and rose quartz.
In Progress
To then push our imaginary brand even further, I was to pick one out of my five logos and create an identity for my company. Here, the deliverables were made apparent. I chose to go with my octopus logo donned with a chef’s hat and began researching, designing, and developing my company.
One of my main focuses was the business card. I wanted to design something that wouldn’t be simple to throw away but also relates to the purpose of my company. I sketched out chopsticks and bottle opener ideas but settled on a bottle stopper. The small bottle stopper showcased the octopus mascot, making the company more identifiable.
For the envelope, I wanted to use the envelope flap to my advantage and incorporate it into the envelope’s illustration. Using something akin to a pop-up book, I designed a ship that, when you open the envelope, the tentacles below the boat, in a Jaws-like fashion, would reach up and grab onto the ship.
As for my fourth component, I decided to create an alcohol label in the company’s style. I wanted to incorporate nautical imagery in the design to push the All Hands on Deck tagline. I also included font that pushed the older pirate-life theme. Once the label was complete, I added my design to a mockup to push the idea even further.
